Nylon Lock NutNylon lock nut Din 985 also known as a lock nutlocking nut, prevailing torque nut, stiff nut or elastic stop nut. It is a nut that resists loosening under vibrations and torque. Elastic stop nuts and torque nuts are of the particular type. Where some portion of the nut deforms elastically to provide a locking action.

General:

The nylon insert locknut comes with an insert that fits the threads of the screw it is placed on. And causes a gripping action due to the friction it creates. This, in turn, lessens the chance that the nut will become loose because of vibrations. Because the washer largely returns to its original form, nylon insert lock nuts may be reused a limited number of times. However, their “locking” feature does loosening without the nuts being seated. Which allows them to be used as stop nuts or spacers for rotating or other components. Nyloc Nut also referred to as a nylon-insert lock nutpolymer-insert lock nut. Or can be called as elastic stop nut, is a kind of locknut with a nylon collar. That increases friction on the screw thread. The nylon collar insert is placed at the end of the nut, with an inner diameter (ID) slightly smaller than the major diameter of the screw. The screw thread does not cut into the nylon insert, however, the insert deforms elastically over the threads. The insert locks the nut against the screw as a result of friction, caused by the radial force resulting from the deformation of the nylon. Nyloc nuts retain their locking ability up to 250 °F (121 °C)
